Care Guide
Silver is a living metal.
925 sterling silver reacts to its environment — air, moisture, perfume, sweat. Tarnish isn't a flaw, it's just silver doing what silver does. The good news: it's entirely manageable.
Wear it right
Put your jewellery on last — after perfume, lotion, and hairspray. Let these settle before your piece touches your skin.
Remove jewellery before swimming, showering, exercising, or sleeping. Chlorine, salt water, and prolonged sweat accelerate tarnish and wear down plating and polish over time.
Avoid contact with household chemicals, cleaning products, and anything sulfur-based.
Store it well
Keep each piece in its own pouch or compartment — metal scratches against metal, and stones can chip.
Away from direct sunlight and humidity. Your bathroom shelf is genuinely the worst place for jewellery.
Know your finish
Your Varya piece has one of three finishes, each with slightly different care needs.
Gold plating Gold-plated silver has a layer of gold bonded over 925 silver. It's warm, rich, and long-lasting with the right care — but the plating is a surface layer, not solid gold, so it needs a little more gentleness.
Avoid abrasive cloths or polishing compounds — these wear down the plating faster. Use only a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe clean. Keep away from perfume, acids, and harsh chemicals.
Rhodium polish Rhodium is one of the rarest metals in the world, and it's what gives silver that bright, mirror-like finish. It also adds a protective layer that resists tarnish and scratch — making rhodium-polished pieces some of the most durable in the range.
Clean with a soft cloth only. Avoid abrasive materials that can dull the finish. Like gold plating, rhodium is a surface treatment and can be reapplied if needed.
Clean it simply
For all finishes: a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear goes a long way.
For a deeper clean on plain silver or rhodium pieces: mild dish soap diluted in lukewarm water, applied with a soft toothbrush, rinsed quickly and dried completely.
For gold-plated pieces: skip the toothbrush. A damp cloth is enough.
Never soak gemstone pieces regardless of finish. Porous stones — moonstone, chalcedony, prehnite, rose quartz — absorb water and can be damaged by prolonged exposure or chemicals.
About your gemstones
Each stone has its own personality and sensitivity.
No ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or harsh chemicals on any piece with stones. Coloured stones can fade with extended UV exposure — don't leave them sitting in direct sunlight. Soft or porous stones need the gentlest handling: no soaking, no abrasives, no pressure.
